What can stop hair loss in the eyebrows? Are there home remedies or shampoos that are effective, or does only a hair transplant help? Here, women and men can find out what can be done about eyebrow hair loss.

Reasons and causes of eyebrow hair loss

As with other types of hair loss, there are many reasons for losing your eyebrows. Both men and women can be affected by eyebrow hair loss.

In women

Like other types of hair loss, eyebrow hair loss can be genetic. In this case there is a predisposition inherited from the father or the mother. The eyebrows then usually thin in the outer third, so that they look not only incomplete but also unkempt.

Women, however, are exposed to further risks that can promote eyebrow hair loss. Permanent make-up can often cause the eyebrows to fall out gradually. Because permanent make-up is a tattoo that often has to be repeated, the skin in this area becomes more and more scarred. Hair can no longer grow back on heavily scarred skin.

But removing permanent make-up with laser treatment also destroys your own eyebrows. At best, what remains is a thin, unattractive brow – if anything at all.

In men

In men, too, eyebrow hair loss can be genetic. But taking certain medications can also promote hair loss. In particular, patients undergoing radiotherapy or chemotherapy that includes local radiation to the face often suffer from the loss of eyelashes and eyebrows.

However, deficiencies and stress can also promote hair loss. In most cases, though, this affects not only the eyebrows but also the hair on the head or in the beard.

How does an eyebrow transplant work?

The hair specialists at Hair Doctors pay attention to natural results, so that you are completely satisfied with your eyebrows afterwards. In an eyebrow transplant, attention is paid to the growth direction of the hairs so that nobody notices that these are not your natural eyebrows.

Transplant in women

A hair transplant requires hair follicles, which first have to be taken from the back or the sides of the head. The FUT method makes this possible without shaving the hair to be removed beforehand and is therefore suitable for all female patients with long hair.

Transplant in men

In men, the hair transplant can be carried out using the FUE method. Here, a small area of the head is shaved first, so you should have short hair for this treatment.

The follicles to be transplanted are then taken from the shaved area and inserted so that they form a natural-looking brow.

Aftercare after a hair transplant for eyebrow hair loss

Aftercare after an eyebrow transplant depends on the method. The FUT method leaves a small suture, and the stitches have to be removed about 2–3 weeks after the transplant.

If no suture was made, a follow-up appointment is only needed after a few months. It checks whether the eyebrows have taken properly and are growing on their own. The final result is visible about a year after the treatment, and you have full, beautifully shaped eyebrows again.

Costs of an eyebrow transplant

As an eyebrow transplant is a small transplant, the hair transplant costs are around €2,400 to €3,600. Financing is also possible for residents of Germany, so that you can spread the costs over several monthly instalments.

Can we help you with your eyebrow hair loss?

Frequently asked questions

Common questions from our patients

How much eyebrow hair loss is normal?

It is normal for a few hairs to fall out now and then. Even if several hairs fall out over a short period but this stops by itself, there is no reason to worry.

When should you see a doctor about eyebrow hair loss?

You should see a doctor if the hair loss in your eyebrows continues for a longer period and your eyebrows are visibly thinning.

Do shampoos and home remedies help to combat eyebrow hair loss?

If the hair loss is due to a lack of nutrients, certain home remedies can help to combat it. If, however, it is hormonal or hereditary, shampoos and home remedies are often of no use. In that case, a surgical solution with a hair transplant is the only option.
