With SMP, Hair Doctors brings the next innovation
A bald head has never looked so good: scalp micropigmentation.
Sometimes a hair transplant is not an option. For example, because the hair loss is already too advanced. Or because the effort of a hair transplant is out of proportion to the expected result. Even in such a case, at Hair Doctors you always receive authentic, reliable and fully transparent advice.
Often, though, that is exactly when scalp micropigmentation (SMP for short) is the perfect solution – for example for men who wear their hair shaved short and would like to give themselves an even sportier, healthier look with scalp pigmentation (an SMP treatment). This innovative treatment method simulates short stubble, so that it looks as if the head were shaved. The result looks extremely natural and cannot be distinguished from real stubble with the naked eye. Our SMP practitioners are specialists with many years of experience in this field and can create very individual treatment solutions to suit your needs.
For men and women
Scalp pigmentation with SMP – is it right for you?
However, scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is not only suitable for men whose hair loss is too advanced for a hair transplant. Pigmenting the scalp can also be the solution for both men and women who would like their hair to look fuller or whose scalp shows through their hair. People with alopecia areata (patchy hair loss) may also be helped by SMP. Our Hair Doctors team will be happy to explain everything you need to know, as well as what professional scalp micropigmentation can and cannot do.
- Hair loss that is too advanced for a hair transplant
- Scalp showing through the hair
- Patchy hair loss (alopecia areata)

How scalp micropigmentation works

If you decide on scalp micropigmentation, tiny pigment dots are applied to the head just beneath the skin’s surface. After the treatment, it therefore looks as if there were short hairs all over the head. Essentially, it is a kind of tattoo. But because the ink is placed less deeply and is broken down by the body after a few years, it does not fade. In addition, an SMP treatment does not have the annoying effect, familiar from tattoos, of the colour turning bluish over the years. The ink used specifically by Hair Doctors is also hypoallergenic, so it does not react to possible allergies. It contains only natural pigments and is 100% free of heavy metals such as lead, nickel or iron oxide.

At Hair Doctors, you are welcomed in a calm and relaxed setting. Our experienced pigmentation specialist applies the ink to the top layer of skin with a computer-controlled pen, simulating short stubble or fine, elongated lines, depending on the aim of the treatment. The result of an SMP treatment lasts for about 3–4 years and can then be maintained beyond that at any time with a touch-up, without much effort. Because a numbing cream is applied before the scalp is pigmented, scalp micropigmentation at Hair Doctors is practically painless.

We recommend refreshing the pigmentation every 12 to 18 months in a session of about three hours.

The colour pigments injected during SMP are gradually broken down by the body. We therefore recommend that you come back to us every 12 to 18 months to refresh your hair pigmentation and keep the result looking as long-lasting and vibrant as possible. During such a refresher session of about three hours, which we also call a touch-up, new colour pigments are applied.
