The consultation is dedicated to your questions. Your hair adviser will give you a medical questionnaire, which you should complete about your medical history to the best of your knowledge. We then check whether you are generally suitable for a hair transplant using your own hair, based on a few questions – for example about how your hair has developed and how your parents’ and other family members’ hair has developed – and compare this with your current hair situation. You will also be informed about the possible risks of a hair transplant. These preparations are very important to us, because we only carry out a treatment if your wishes are in line with what is medically achievable.

Ten days before your procedure, stop smoking and stop taking blood-thinning medication. Avoid alcohol for 2 days before the hair transplant. If you notice changes to your scalp such as redness, dandruff or excessive itching, please see a dermatologist straight away and ask them to contact your personal Hair Doctors hair adviser. Simply let your hair keep growing and, in particular, avoid going to the hairdresser in the 4 weeks before your hair transplant. On the day of your procedure, have a good breakfast, drink plenty and wear comfortable clothes. Your hair adviser will give you detailed information in a personal consultation at Hair Doctors.

The day has finally come. Our reception team will welcome you to our hair clinic and take you to your hair surgeon. After a detailed medical consultation with your hair specialist, our hair team will take you to the treatment room. Your hair surgeon will first give you a local anaesthetic for the donor area so that the treatment is painless for you. This is followed by removing the strip (with the FUT method) or the individual extraction (with the FUE method) of the grafts to be transplanted. While you relax in the treatment chair, our specially trained hair technicians prepare the extracted grafts for reinsertion. This is done under state-of-the-art stereo microscopes. The grafts are cooled on special plasma coolers so that the transplant is as gentle as possible. Meanwhile, after a local anaesthetic of the recipient area, your hair surgeon uses a hollow needle or a slit scalpel to make tiny channels (known as slits) in the natural growth direction of your hair, into which the hair technicians then place the individual grafts. After your hair transplant, our hair technicians will explain in detail how to wash your hair in the first days after the treatment – which you can easily do at home – and give you detailed information to take away. If you wish, you can of course also have your hair washed at our hair clinic on the first day after your treatment.

An overnight stay at our hair clinic is generally not necessary after a hair transplant at Hair Doctors, but can be arranged on request. After a final consultation with your hair surgeon, and once you have received a headband (if needed), head covering and a prescription for medication for the first days after the treatment (for legal reasons we may only prescribe medication, not hand it out), you will be discharged from the hair clinic. Please note that on the day of the treatment, i.e. directly after your hair transplant, you may not drive or otherwise take part in road traffic.

If you have any questions or feel unsure in the period after your hair transplant, your personal hair adviser is always there for you as a knowledgeable point of contact. After 10–12 months, our team will get in touch with you again to arrange a follow-up appointment – free of charge, of course. Together with you, we will assess whether the result of your hair transplant meets our standards, but above all your wishes and expectations. A final assessment of the result is possible and meaningful after 10 months at the earliest, because freshly transplanted hair needs time to grow back sufficiently.
